Wrightson Mundy

Wrightson Mundy (1715 – 18 June 1762) was High Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1737 and MP for Leicestershire in 1747.〔(Leighrayment )〕
==Biography==
Wrightson married Anne daughter of Robert Burdett and sister of Sir Robert Burdett, Bt of Foremarke Hall, Derbyshire by whom he had one son and four daughters. His heir was Francis Noel Clarke Mundy.
He owned estates at Markeaton Hall, Derbyshire and Osbaston Hall, Leicestershire adjacent to the estate of Wolstan Dixie, 4th Baronet of Market Bosworth, with whom Wrightson Mundy reportedly came to blows.
One of Mundy's daughters married Robert, seventh Earl Ferrers〔(A" TITLE="http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=QisAAAAAQAAJ&lpg=PA26&ots=YyROzivI_q&dq=%22wrightson+mundy%22&pg=PA26&ci=559,227,415,660&source=bookclip">A"> Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Commoners of Great Britain and Ireland, Enjoying Territorial Possessions Or High Official Rank But Uninvested with Heritable Honours ) By John Burke, accessed 31 May 2008〕 whilst Millicent married Captain French and had a portrait by Joseph Wright of Derby.〔(Millicent Mundy (Mrs French) ), painting by Joseph Wright, Sotheby’s, accessed June 2009〕 Millicent had been chosen by her uncle who had died childless to receive the small manor of Broadfield in Herefordshire. The inheritance came with the condition that her eldest son should take the name of Forester. Wrightson Mundy's grandchildren therefore included Richard Forrester French of Abbot's Hill in Derbyshire.〔'Parishes: Broadfield', A History of the County of Hertford: volume 3 (1912), pp. 209-211. (Date accessed: 12 September 2011 )〕 Richard French was listed as one of the founding members of the Derby Philosophical Society with William Strutt and Erasmus Darwin.
There is a portrait of Mundy in Derby Museum and Art Gallery by an unknown artist.〔(Wrightson Mundy ), unknown artist, BBC, accessed July 2011〕
